This animated anthology series features original stories set in the worlds of iconic video games. Video games have made a huge leap to the screen, and we’re celebrating the genre by taking a closer look at over 50 video game adaptations in films and shows. Clive Standon reprises his voice role as Demetrius Titus, the protagonist of the video game Space Marine 2.

Aside from a few great episodes, Secret Level feels like a monument to mediocrity. The writing is painfully average, and despite the undeniably stunning visuals, the entire show is let down – though even they feel like reheated leftovers from a decade of over-the-top video game filmmaking. Honestly, what is this show trying to do or say that video game marketing hasn’t done (and done better) in the past 10+ years?

Spoiler alert — it wasn’t

The title track is confusing. Where are the big names? The lack of heavy hitters screams one thing: the developers either didn’t want to be part of this train wreck, or they were waiting to see if Season 1 would stick the landing.

What should be tight, impactful, and memorable feels disjointed and uninspired. Variety called it an “uninspired snooze,” and for once, Variety wasn’t harsh enough. Secret Level is proof that flashy visuals can’t hide a lack of vision, heart, or originality!
